"The Bucharest prosecutor's office on Wednesday charged the far-right candidate who came out on top in the presidential election with, among other things, making false statements about the sources of funding for his election campaign."

The Bucharest prosecutor's office on Wednesday, February 26, charged the far-right presidential candidate Calin Georgescu with making "false statements" about the sources of funding for his election campaign.

"The prosecutor has ordered the opening of criminal proceedings," the prosecution said in a statement without naming Calin Georgescu, a judicial source later confirming to AFP that it was indeed him. The vote, tainted by suspicions of Russian interference, had been cancelled.
